The Manatee County provides wastewater services to more than 330,000 customers across 900 square miles of unincorporated portions of Manatee County, Florida.
The Wastewater Collections section is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of over 28,000 manholes, 468 miles of force main (pressure pipe), and 1257 miles of gravity sewer.
As a Utilities Water Maintenance Technician DOQ, you will perform a variety of skilled and semi- skilled maintenance or construction activities in the operation of Manatee County's Water/Wastewater System.
You will assist in the repair of water/wastewater line breaks, assist in water/wastewater line locations, and install water/wastewater lines.

Job Description What You Will Do Adjusts manhole rims and covers to grade and pours concrete.
Add to your salary with Standby and On-Call Use various equipment and tools to maintain, repair and replace water/wastewater lines throughout Manatee County.

Knowledge of safety and health precautions associated with confined space operations, underground trenches and excavations, heavy equipment operation, traffic control, mechanical and chemical equipment repair, electrical and internal combustion driven machinery, and hazardous chemical and fluids handling, commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Education:
All levels require a high school diploma or equivalent.
Participation in a rotating stand-by/on-call schedule is required.
All levels require a valid driver's license with a valid Florida driver's license prior to the start date.
Tech IA must have a valid Florida Class A CDL Permit with written Air Brakes, Tanker, Combination, and General Knowledge tests within 90 days of hire.
Tech IA must obtain a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver License (CDL) with tanker endorsement within twelve (12) months of hire.
All other levels require a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker endorsement.
Experience:
Technician IA:
No previous relevant experience is required.
Technician IB:
One or more years of experience in plumbing, construction, or mechanical repairs.
Technician II:
Three or more years of experience in plumbing, construction, or mechanical repairs.
One year of back-hoe experience.
Technician III:
Five or more years of experience in plumbing, construction, or mechanical repairs.
Three years of back-hoe experience.
Previous lead or supervisory experience desired.
Certification Requirements:
Tech 1B:
Level 3 Distribution Systems Operator License within 18 months of hire.
Confined Space Certification within 1 year of hire.
Teaching and Shoring Certification within 1 year of hire.
Temporary Traffic Control Certificate within 1 year of hire.
Technician II:
Level 2 Distribution Systems Operator License.
Technician III:
Level 1 Distribution Systems Operator License.
Desired:
All Levels:
Previous experience in repair/maintenance of water/wastewater distribution utility systems and pipe laying, operating heavy earth moving equipment, and operating directional bore machine desired.
