The Planning and Zoning Technician (I, II, III, or SR) - Environmental Technician You will work with a team of environmental planners to assist with inquiries from applicants and the public related to general environmental issues, including tree removal permits, wetlands, docks, erosion and sediment controls and habitat protection.
You will conduct site visits to evaluate silt fence installations, wetland buffer enhancement plantings, exotic plant removal and dock permits in compliance with approved site plans, the Comprehensive Plan and the Land Development Code and enter reports into the Accela system.

Job Description What You Will Do Conduct inspections of development sites for the installation of erosion and sediment control devices and general compliance.
Respond to citizen complaints regarding wetland protection, required landscaping, trees and other areas of Environmental Planning responsibilities.
Review tree removal applications and prepare documents for approval/denial.
Review dock building permits for compliance with state regulations.
Prepare reports and forms detailing site visit findings for documentation of completion and compliance.
Who You Are Knowledge of trees and other vegetation typically utilized in landscape areas of Southwest Florida Knowledge of wetlands, native habitats and listed species typically found in Manatee County and habitat/restoration practices.
Experience in researching records such as recorded plats, easements and deed restrictions and the ability to interpret site plans and navigate within development sites.
Florida Stormwater, Erosion, and Sediment Control Inspector Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of employment.

Minimum two (2) years customer service in public sector, construction, regulatory agency, or field closely related to area of assignment.
Tech IIHigh school diploma or equivalent certification required with a minimum of three (3) years professional experience in planning, construction, zoning and land use regulation, engineering or field closely related to area of assignment.
Tech III High school diploma or equivalent Certification.
Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in planning, construction, zoning and land use regulation, engineering or field closely related to area of assignment.
SeniorAssociate degree in planning, engineering, construction, architecture or similar field, with a minimum of three (3) years professional experience in planning, construction, zoning, land use regulation or a minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in planning, construction, zoning and land use regulation, engineering or field closely related to area of assignment.
All levels:
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered; Valid Florida driver's license within 30 days of hire.
